Rattle Snakes

December 31, 2008

This is the most feared snake all over the U.S which is responsible for many deaths by snakebites that take place in the deserts every year. These are very  fierce creatures and they live and are found in the deserts of the U.S. these are very efficient snakes that have really adopted to harsh climatic conditions and hardly have or consume water throughout their lives except during the rains or put it in this way that if it rains in the deserts.

The scientific term that has been kept for this snake is the Genus Crotalus and the reason why this scientific name is because they the belong to the Coral Snake family. These snakes are one of the most venomous snakes that live in the deserts of the U.S.

Though there are many other snakes both venomous and non venomous that live in the U.S. but it’s the rattle that really scores above the rest of its cousins and relatives. They belong to the coral snake family as already mentioned above; some of its relatives are the Copper head snake usually found in Australia and the Cotton mouth usually found in the swampy rivers and forest in Florida. But this is the only venomous snake that is the main cause of many snake bites that are reported and treated in the U.S and especially in states like Arizona and Kansas as well as some other parts of southwest America.

Usually most of the U.S. is familiar with only one type of rattler and that is the diamond back rattle snake but I am sure you would be very surprised to know that there are 16 types of rattle snakes that are found on this planet. All of these are not in the U.S but some of them are in the other countries too. Some of the other examples of the types of rattle snake is the eastern diamond back rattle snake, the Mojave rattle snake and some others. Now I would not like to mention all of them since they would really take some time in both writing them and reading them.

These snakes are the perfect example for adaptation according to harsh climatic conditions where there are no provision made for water in the deserts. The main reason for this name is because they have a tail that rattles every time they feel they are threatened and are about to attack their prey.
