Snake Species
Snakes seem to be those reptiles that found and seen all over, name any place or any habitat on this planet and I am sure you would find them there. There are even some of them who have being living in those areas and places that are impossible to live in. there have been many of them that live in those sun scorching deserts and barren lands in the U.S. and these creatures have been found even in those icy mountains and valley that remain covered with ice all throughout the year.
These creatures have really set a perfect example of adaptability and struggle as they have been present on the planet even before humans could walk this earth. There have been many experts that believe that the snake could be the first reptile to crawl on this planet.
However, they are many myths and rumors that have been associated with this animal. Sometimes they have been regarded to be closely associated with the devil while in some countries like India they have been treated as the locomotives that these Indian Gods and Goddess used to travel upon.
As we all know and have seen that there are many other species of snakes, which are living within the snake kingdom itself. Most of them can be classified into two different groups such as the venomous and the non venomous group. But even they have been further sub classified into other sub groups.
In the venomous group there some snakes that can be classified into the pit viper group while there are some snakes that can be classified into the non pit viper group. The pit viper group snakes are the Rattle snakes and the puff adders.
The reason why they are called the Viper snakes is because they have some small pits that are located just above their mouth and these are the pits that help the snake to hunt during the night time.
These pits actually create a thermal image for the snake and help it to determine whether it should attack on the prey or no. if the pits detect yellow or green color then the snake would just move out from there and would not attack the snake. But if they show the snake the red color, then they would immediately attack on the prey. So this is the reason why there are called the Pitt Vipers.
While other snakes like the boa or the python constrict their prey and kill them. These snakes usually don’t have these pits and attack on their prey depending upon the size of the prey.
